FAQ — Advance School of Real Estate

Question 1

What is the minimum age to hold an Arkansas real estate license?

Accepted Answer

You must be at least 18 years old (the age of majority in Arkansas) to hold a real estate license.

Question 2

What is required to obtain an Arkansas real estate salesperson license?

Accepted Answer

You must complete a 60-hour pre-licensing course from an AREC-approved school, pass the Arkansas real estate salesperson examination (administered by Pearson Vue, fee: $75), submit a successful score report, pay a license fee of $50.00 and a recovery fund fee of $25.00, and pass a background check. The score report and fees must be submitted to AREC within 90 days of your exam date.

Question 3

How long is the 60-hour pre-license certificate valid?

Accepted Answer

For salesperson applicants, the 60-hour pre-license certificate has no expiration. However, broker applicants must have completed their broker pre-license education within 36 months immediately preceding the date they apply to take the broker's exam.

Question 4

When must I complete post-license education?

Accepted Answer

A new salesperson must complete the 18-hour AREC post-licensure course within 6 months after the date they were initially licensed. A new broker must complete the 30-hour AREC post-licensure course within 6 months after being initially licensed (unless seeking Executive or Principal Broker status, in which case it must be completed before requesting that status).

Question 5

When is continuing education required?

Accepted Answer

Licensees must obtain 7 hours of continuing education annually to renew an active real estate license for the upcoming calendar year. Renewal must be completed by September 30 of the current year to avoid a penalty. If an active license is not renewed prior to December 31, it will automatically expire on January 1.

Question 6

What are the license renewal fees?

Accepted Answer

A salesperson pays $60.00 and a broker pays $80.00 if the license is renewed before September 30. After September 30, a penalty is applied: $20.00 for salespersons and $30.00 for brokers. Licenses expire December 31 of the current year.

Question 7

Are your courses approved by the Arkansas Real Estate Commission?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All courses offered by Advance School of Real Estate are approved by the Arkansas Real Estate Commission (AREC). Completion of our courses satisfies the applicable AREC education requirements.

Question 8

How many hours is the real estate pre-license course?

Accepted Answer

The Arkansas real estate salesperson pre-license course is 60 hours. This is the AREC-required education to qualify to sit for the salesperson licensing examination.

Question 9

How many hours is the post-license course?

Accepted Answer

The salesperson post-license course is 18 hours. The broker post-license course is 30 hours. These are separate courses — the salesperson post-license course cannot be applied toward the broker post-license requirement.

Question 10

Can post-license courses count toward continuing education?

Accepted Answer

The AREC salesperson post-license curriculum consists of three 6-hour modules. Any one of those modules may also meet a licensee's annual continuing education requirement, provided it is not simultaneously being applied to a post-license education requirement. The broker post-license curriculum may not be used as continuing education.
